New version of the automatic Beef Classification Center - the BCC-2.1
- Friday, 24 August 2012

Carometec has recently finished the development of the new generation of the BCC-2, which has a digital camera system. This new version is called the BCC-2.1

The BCC-2 was developed in the mid-1990’ies by the Danish Meat Research Institute (DMRI) on behalf of the Association of Cattle Slaughterhouses in Denmark. This was the beginning of a new era of automatic objective carcass grading in beef plants as opposed to grading by a trained and certified grader (S-EUROP grading principle).

The existing BCC-2, based on an analog camera system, had become obsolete and, therefore, Carometec decided to develop an updated grading system. Carometec made a development project in collaboration with the 2 largest BCC-2 customers - Danish Crown and the French Groupe Bigard.

The measuring principle remains the same and all the robust mechanical parts are unchanged in the updated version.  The new digital camera version has a much higher image resolution enabling a significant increase in primal sorting accuracy.

With more than 15 years of use in the tough industrial environment the BCC-2 has proven its high reliability and shown low maintenance costs for the slaughterhouses.

Today, the BCC-2 is the most widely used beef grading equipment in Europe with installations in Denmark, Germany, France and Spain.
